What I Ate Today - 01/21/14
One of the things that I always remember about my birthday is the food. When I was a kid, my mom always let me and my sister both choose what we wanted for our school lunch and for dinner and we got to choose what kind of cake we wanted. With food allergies, being able to have the ice cream cake from Dairy Queen was just about as exciting as getting presents, since I rarely ate store-bought desserts the rest of the year. This birthday was no exception; I picked dinner, didn't have any hand in making it, and got the coveted ice cream cake. Breakfast:
I made myself my favourite breakfast of blueberry chocolate chip pancakes. I simply substitute a pancake recipe that uses one egg with about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of rice milk and the batter turns out perfectly. I make pancakes a handful of times in a year so they always feel like a treat.
For lunch was leftover rice pasta in a tomato sauce with carrots, zucchini, celery, onions, kale and some spicy sausage. Whenever my mom makes pasta she usually makes a giant pot, so we have leftovers for a couple of days.
I made sure not to snack at all today so I had lots of room to eat dinner and dessert.
My choice for the evening was a full Greek style dinner. We had Greek rice, Greek potatoes, Greek salad, Greek chicken, and tzatziki with pita bread. The kitchen smelt absolutely amazing all day and the dinner tasted even better. I had to stop myself from having thirds it was so delicious.
I am in love with the design on top of the cake; Dairy Queen has a way of making everything on their cakes look cute. There's really nothing I can say about ice cream cake that hasn't already been said. It's amazing. It tastes like happiness. If you haven't tried it you are completely missing out.
Also, I am not turning three years old plus a sparkler; my family gets lazier with candles the older we all get, so my age will remain a mystery.
