Review: WOW BUTTER Peanut Free Spread
I received a sample of WOW BUTTER in my August Foodie Pen Pal box, and was very excited, but also nervous to give it a try. Sure, it is completely nut free and full of protein and Omega-3's, but it looks just like peanut butter; a substance I have been told my entire life to never touch without 3 pairs of rubber gloves on. It was the first time I really encountered how mental food allergies can be.
With the WOW BUTTER sample, I also received a little pamphlet explaining the benefits of this soy spread. I think the greatest part about it is that WOW BUTTER is safe for schools, so both nut allergic kids and kids without allergies can eat this spread without anyone feeling left out. It's also gluten free and contains no added colours, flavours or preservatives.
The best (and scariest) part, is that WOW BUTTER looks just like peanut butter. And according to my taste testers, my mom and boyfriend, this tastes just like Skippy peanut butter. It is quite a thick spread with the same texture as smooth peanut butter and the same nutty taste and smell.
It took me a few minutes to work up to actually taking a bite of the toast and WOW BUTTER, but fears aside, I thought it was delicious. It's thick and creamy, and is quite filling. I've already purchased a jar and have used it in sandwiches and smoothies and am really enjoying the addition of flavour. It's so great to see products like this on the market. Coming from the mind set that I would never be able to eat "peanut butter" it's always exciting when products can be adapted to suit other needs. I give WOW BUTTER a two thumbs up; a fantastic product with fantastic results both inside and outside the food allergic community.
Have you ever tried WOW BUTTER or a soy butter spread? What did you think of it?
